PR Media Moves and Influencer Intel May 9

To keep up with today's media landscape, public relations professionals need to know not only who is going where, but also how to communicate more effectively with those journalists, bloggers and influencers making moves.

This week's highlights include Tampa Bay Times’ purchase of the Tampa Tribune, a new executive editor at Tech Insider, and reviews of four sports blogs you should be reading.

1. The Tampa Tribune: The Tampa Bay Times (@TB_Times) purchased the 123-year-old Tampa Tribune and transferred all of its subscribers to the Times on Wednesday of last week. Over 100 layoffs at the Tribune were expected after the purchase. The Times is Florida's largest newspaper and provides news to the St. Petersburg and Tampa Bay regions. With this buyout, the Times is now the stand-alone newspaper/online news source in the region. It has also become a top 10 newspaper for Sunday circulation in the U.S.

2. Organic Life: Melanie Hansche (@MelHansche) takes the reins as the new editor-in-chief of @OrganicLifeMag. Melanie will be in charge of editorial, mobile and the web versions of the magazine. Melanie was the executive director of food content and strategy before being promoted to this new role. Before that she was the managing editor of Australian food magazine "donna hay." One of her rules in life is: "Don't Bake Angry."

3. Associated Press: News Editor Steve McMillan (@stevejmcmillan) has been promoted to @AP Mid-Atlantic news editor. Steve will be in charge of Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and the District of Columbia. This is part of AP's new realignment of regions with the Mid-Atlantic focusing on states in and around Washington. Steve will continue to be stationed in his current location at the Richmond bureau. Steve previously worked at The Denver Post as their public policy editor. Steve is an avid skier, mountain biker and loves blues music.

4. Tech Insider: Alyson Shontell (@ajs) is now the new executive editor of @techinsider. She most recently served as a deputy editor for sister outlet Business Insider. She has been at Business Insider since 2008 working as a senior correspondent and war room editor. As deputy editor she was in charge of tech, science, lifestyle and entertainment news.

5. Sacramento Business Journal: Editor Adam Steinhauer takes the reins as editor-in-chief at @Sacbiz. Adam has been a business journalist for over 25 years and recently was at Growth Capital Investor where he was the senior editor in charge of covering the financing market of new companies. Adam has also worked at The Deal, Bloomberg News and started his career at the Orange County Business Journal and the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
