PR Newswire Influencer Insights April 11 2016

To keep up with today's media landscape, public relations professionals need to know not only who is going where, but also how to communicate more effectively with those journalists, bloggers, and influencers making moves.

This week's highlights include an update on Jim VandeHei’s move from POLITICO, an executive editor promotion at Conde Nast Traveler, and an interview with Global National's Parliamentary correspondent.

1. POLITICO: Jim VandeHei (@jimvandehei), the president and co-founder at @POLITICO, is moving on to start a new company. Jim had planned to stay on until after the election but is moving on a little earlier than expected to get his new entrepreneurial enterprise going. Jim launched POLITICO almost ten years ago with fellow Washington Post co-worker John Harris and Publisher Robert Allbritton's backing. Since then, the political and policy site has grown and expanded worldwide. Chief White House Correspondent Mike Allen (@mikeallen) will be leaving after the election to join Jim in his new venture, while John Harris will continue as editor-in-chief at Politico.

2. Conde Nast Traveler: Deputy Editor Candice Rainey (@candicerainey) takes the reins as @CNTraveler‘s executive editor. She is replacing Peter John Lindberg (@peterjlindberg) who is returning to freelancing. Candice started her career at GQ and held deputy editor and editor roles at Details and Elle, respectively. Candice is also an avid skier and pens stories on her travels. She is a big Stevie Nicks fan, too!

3. Univision Network – Washington Bureau: Janet Rodriguez (@janrodrigueztv) is moving to D.C. to become the White House correspondent at @NoticiasDC. Janet formerly worked at Telemundo, and was based in Chicago, as their midwest correspondent for the past three years. Janet has also had over four years of experience working as a reporter/anchor at KTAZ-TV in Phoenix.

4. New York Magazine: Political commentator Andrew Sullivan (@sullydish) has been named a contributing editor covering politics at @NYMag. Andrew previously worked and ran "The Dish" as their blogger-in-chief. The Dish left the blogosphere a year ago and now Andrew has decided to return to long-form journalism. He will also be blogging at the Democratic and Republican conventions as part of his new duties.

5. The Millions: Lydia Kiesling (@lydiakiesling) is the new editor at @the_millions. The Millions was created in 2003 and is an online site that reviews and writes about books, the arts and culture. Lydia is based in San Francisco and is a member of the National Book Critics Circle. Lydia has penned articles for Slate, Salon and The New York Times Book Review.

Influencer Intel of the Week: Global National's Parliamentary Correspondent Vassy Kapelos has been passionate about current events for as long as she can remember. In CNW’s latest Meet the Press, she shares her PR pitch tips and discusses what it’s like to cover the new Federal government.
