The new storage family includes two new systems a revamped ETERNUS DX8700 S3 and new scale-out ETERNUS DX8900 S3 storage system. This is all made possible with the new DX8000 S3 Qual Star architecture that supports a new front end, any-to-any router that can connect any host FC port to any controller in the system. For this month's podcast, the GreyBeards talk data aware, scale-out files systems with Peter Godman, Co-founder & CEO Qumulo. Peter had previously been with EMC Isilon and had worked a long time in scale out NAS there. Qumulo takes a somewhat different tack and focuses on providing quicker and better metadata access in their data aware file services. Another significant difference is Qumulo's use of Agile software development to release new storage functionality every two weeks!! At their Discover conference, HP announced a new high end 3PAR StoreServ product line that includes the 20800 CFA and 20850 AFA. The systems have upgraded hardware, a new Gen 5 ASIC, and new 3PAR OS. The performance numbers for the AFA are pretty impressive. With 3PAR's data reduction capabilities, the 20850 CFA is able to provide 15PB of usable storage for 6PB of raw capacity.
